You should choose a subject that suits your audience. The audience will listen readily if the subject is of interest to them also.

They will be most interested in subjects, which vitally concerns them, their immediate environment, and the society at large.

Before selecting the topic, ask yourself the following questions with a view to analyse the audience:

What are they likely to be interested in as individuals?

What are they likely to be interested in as an organized group: like students and teachers; professionals and businessmen; common man and politicians; working women and housewives.

What will they expect me to deliver in my speech?

You should choose a subject that suits the occasion. You should discuss with the organizers the specific purpose of the assembly. Keep your subject within the spirit of the occasion.
